November 6, 2007

Dear Alumni,

Each year it is a great privilege for the current students to reconnect with so many of you during the annual Alfred L. Edwards BBSA Conference. Last year’s conference continued to build on the legacy of Dr. Edwards, and was made a success in part due to the attendance of so many of our distinguished alumni. This year’s conference will continue to grow the legacy of Dr. Edwards, and is themed “Advancing Diversity in Times of Adversity.”

For those of you that have previously attended, you already know what a wonderful event this is in terms of networking, renewing relationships with classmates, and participating in high-quality programming. Your attendance at this year’s conference is more important than ever as we strive to increase the representation of African American Students at the University of Michigan in the wake of Proposal 2, which has had an adverse impact on the ability of the University to attract and retain people of color. We have already seen the adverse effects of removal of this programming from Michigan at the undergraduate level, and are working diligently to prevent this from happening within the business school. Your presence at the conference will illustrate to prospective students exactly how diverse our alumni network is and demonstrate the many advantages of attending the university!

We have a great lineup of speakers and content for this year’s conference, including Ed Gordon, Ramsey Ray Jr. and Carla Harris. Our conference chairs have been planning for the past several months and we are confident that the event will be a resounding success.

I would like to thank you in advance for your continued support and look forward to seeing you in January for the 32nd Annual Alfred L. Edwards BBSA Conference! Please visit the conference website at http://www.rossbbsa.com/conference to register and learn more about this momentous occasion.

Sincerely,

Ted McElroy
