PRESIDENT'S WELCOME
On behalf of the Black Business Students Association (BBSA) of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business (RSB) at the University of Michigan, welcome to our website! Here you will find links to current and upcoming events, member and alumni profiles, and corporate relations information. We also provide a wealth of information for prospective students. The BBSA is dedicated to enhancing and enriching the professional, academic, and personal experiences of its members and to pursuing opportunities that positively impact the greater Ross community. Above all we are interested in cultivating meaningful personal relationships that we can carry with us throughout our careers. We hope that you find that our website provides a thorough introduction to what we affectionately refer to as our "BBSA Family."
The BBSA's success in delivering meaningful activities to our members and the greater Ross community is a direct result of our ability to bring together dedicated club members, faculty & staff, and corporate partners to co-create valuable experiences for everyone involved. Some of the activities that we are most proud of include our annual series of Ross Black History Month events, including Poetry night and Black History Trivia; our tradition of taking over classes at a local middle school to teach Junior Achievement materials for a day; and our Annual BBSA Conference, during which we bring together alumni, current and prospective students, and corporate partners for a weekend of professional development and networking.
In February 2007, we held our 31st Annual Alfred L. Edwards BBSA Conference themed "Pathways to Prosperity: Building Wealth in Our Communities." The conference continued to grow in 2007 and was very successful, attracting over 220 attendees and 24 corporate sponsors. During the conference we celebrated the life and legacy of our beloved Dr. Edwards, who passed away in January 2007. Dr. Edwards' impact on the BBSA and diversity at the business school is immeasurable, as he positively impacted the lives of uncountable BBSA members throughout his three decades here at Michigan. We also celebrated how proud we are of our history, and with the 31 year legacy the BBSA is carrying into the 2007-2008 school year, our organization is stronger and more vibrant than ever.
Our first and second year members represent a diverse group of exceptionally talented MBA students pursuing careers in all aspects of business. Whether you are a prospective MBA, current student, alumni, or corporate representative, the BBSA is proud to introduce our organization and our members to you through our website.
Sincerely,
Ted McElroy
BBSA President '07-'08
